For Etsy I made this tiny doll and hat.
I put together a little scene
with a 1:12 size chair and a vintage piece of knitwork.
The sheperdess hat was made from old hatstraw
and the little bride is dressed in lovely old lace.
I love the soft colors and the old materials.

This summer we moved to a house with a garden! During the hectic days of packing and moving, Ootje found refuge in this pink cabinet. There were moments I wished I could have curled up in there with him..

Ootje and Gloomy love the garden and exploring! Jan and I allready did some work in the garden, but as we had to do a lot of painting, peeling of wallpaper, more painting, and a lot of chores that have to be done when you move to a new home, the garden is for next year.

As you know Heather won my surprise GiveAway. . Now that she so kindly posted about it , I also can post a picture. The mannequin was a kit I bought from Hazel Dowd and covered in linnen. I made panniers and an underskirt with lace. The dress itself is made from very pale pink silk.

Back from Germany

This weekend we were at the 1:12 Show in Rheda-Wiedenbruck. We had a great time in Germany. We met lovely people, saw some beautiful miniatures, bought some miniatures...

The footmen by Sylvia Mobley and dressed by me in light blue silk, decided to quit their job and stay behind...they were muttering about how this is the 21th century, and I made them work too long and too hard..

This lady by Theresa Glisson asked me to dress her in a bright color so the young handsome footman would notice her. She was heartbroken when the handsome young footman decided not to come home with us...

I also wanted to welcome new followers in this post, but Blogger is not showing my followers for two days now. Also I can`t see followers on other Blogs, and I am having trouble leaving comments.
I do hope this problem will be solved tomorrow, when I do the draw for my GiveAway!!!

Arnhem Show

We had a good time in Arnhem, met some lovely people, sold some dolls and bought some miniatures.
A workshop-kit for a little bed by Sylvia Lutje Boudel, some viscose and silk ribbon from Unicorna, silk ribbon from My Passion, fabrics and lace from Brigitte Lohrmann, silk ribbon and tulle from Hazel Dowd, an hourglass by Reina Mab, red glasswork by Gerd Felka, a rosebush on a stem and some old-looking little pots by Jan van den Doel, green glasswork from Ann High, a speculaasblik from Me and My Shadow, tiny mice bat toadstools crow by Georgia Marfels, a wicker flower-basket by Will Werson, silk tulips and a hertshoorn plant by Carla Zandvliet, a blue and white dish by Cocky Wildschut, flowers by Floras Blomster and a porcelain vase by Dineke Boektje.

Time for summerdresses and straw hats, at least in my miniature world...I used a light and flowery coton to dress this lady by Sylvia Mobley.

The teenager by Miep Otzen has her own transport: a sedan chair by Christian Neugebauer. I dressed her in brocade, yellow silk and old lace.

Evening wear

More dolls for the show, a gentleman by Sylvia Mobley and a second lady by Theresa Glisson. I dressed them both in evening wear like Lady Peacockfeathers. They asked me what I was going to wear to the show.
"a pair of jeans, sneakers and a blouse" I answered. "Djeens?? What is that, and why you are going to wear two of them..?

I explained what jeans are, thats it quite respectable in this century, still they were quite shocked: "you can`t wear trousers!!" "Well, I can and I am going to! You three can look pretty all day, while I have to crawl under the table plugging in cables and looking for boxes, bags, food, pens, spectacles... anything that`s going to get lost those two days..

Honeymoon..

When I was dressing these dolls they made me think of my mother and father who went on their honeymoon on a bicycle. So I bought a bicycle in the Fair Trade shop, Jan painted it black and lowered the saddle ( actually he made a new leather saddle!) and the handlebars. My father was tall and had red hair and my mother was dark and petit. So the dolls look a littlebit like them...

I dressed Errol, by Sylvia Mobley, in jodhpur`s and a "tweed" jacket. The lady was made by Miep Otzen, a Dutch doll-artist. Miep now no longer makes dolls, and moved to lovely France.

I dressed the lady in a "tweed" suit with bloomers, very convinient for riding a bicycle!

The background is the actual map my parents used in october 1942 of the area around Vorden in Holland.

Today I tried to take better pictures of the dolls, as I was not happy with the previous picture.

First I cleaned the lens..I thought it might improve the sharpness. Then I made a little studio with a black background. I don`t like using flash, so I used the natural daylight.

Because of the black background, the doll was over-exposed at first, so I had to adjust the aperture to under-exposing. With the

"french" doll I also used a little lamp, but not directly on the doll.

I will keep experimenting, maybe I should try a tripod to help the sharpness.

Yesterday the ridingschool had an open day, all the classes did a 7 minute number in fancy-dress. In between Snowhite and the seven dwarfs and the Flying Nuns, we rode our figures dressed as cowgirls. Me and Inquesta are third from the left. Banazorne on the right did his own pretty little dance...We had a lot of fun!

I need my worktable to start dressing dolls again, so I will leave the shop for now. I am happy with the result so far. The front is all one color, in reality the color is more yellow. The door is changed and painted black.I haven`t started on the appartment on top of the shop, but there allready is a staircase behind the cupboard, and some secret hiding places. When you come down the stairs, you can look in the shop, somewhere is a hole in the wall. It is all still a bit empty, but it will be fun to add more and more items.

Yesterday was a day of demolition and also progress,

there was a nail sticking out of the bottom of the shop, I allready cut it once, but it still made scratches whenever I turned the shop. I had to make a deep hole to get it out. Also I made the hole in the backwall bigger. In this picture you see a small sidewall with a small bookcase, I realised I could not reach the bookcase from the back, so I made the hole under the staircase bigger, in this picture it is still not big enough.

There need to be more books in it, but a tiny space will be left open, so it is possible to look through...

The window in the left wall now has mouldings, I am working on a simple roman blind for it.

Yesterday I made the paneling on the left wall, and a windowsill, I ran out of nice moulding for around the window, so I HAD to go to the dollshouseshop...

bummer (not really, haha)

I bought some paint and other stuff, I also bought a tiny cuckoosclock scale 1:24 for no reason, but it looked so cute! I made the hole in the back of the shop bigger, I am chancing my mind about the space there..

Today I did some work on the shop I bought from Bob Willians from Tollgate Miniatures. At the time I bought it, for some reason it didn`t seem practical to have two floors: a shop with living quarters upstairs.

After looking at it for some months, I thought it would be very nice to have someone living upstairs...grr,sigh.

Eventually it should look like this..That means building a small appartment on top of the shop..I love to build, but I am lousy at it..

I (Jan) took the front of, so it is easier to work on the inside. What Jan and I did so far: make two extra windows in the side-walls, make a big hole in the back-wall to take the transformer. As the transformer plugs directly in an electric point, it really should`nt have to be this big..I made a staircase that goes to the roof-terrace for now. Under the staircase there is a little cellar with a little lamp and a little door..wich Jan made. The story behind this 18th century shop is that it is run by La Belle Brigante, a famous highwaywoman, who stole from the rich and gave food and money to the poor people.

Other highwaymen and women followed her example.

And no-one in search for food or shelter was turned away from the little green door.

Today I glued stone-paper to one of the outside walls, and painted one window

as a test for the color. The color is Hound Lemon. It is not very visible in the picture, but I like it.

This gentleman in white silk is almost ready to travel to Madrid, he is a resin doll made by Sherri Colvin . Dressed and wigged by me, I only forgot a feather on his tricorne..His servant is a porcelain doll by Sylvia Mobley, I made him a straw tricorne. The travel basket is made by Will Werson.

Now there is a feather on his hat, better I think!

What I am working on at the moment

This little bed is my latest project, not quite finished. The photo is taken in an other project. A georgian shop I bought from Bob Willians from Tollgate Miniatures last year. It makes very slow progress, I decided it needed more windows and a staircase. The shop is owned by Madame La Belle Brigante, a famous highway-woman from the 18th century.

Saturday we visited the Loo.. http://www.paleishetloo.nl/ A beautiful palace used for centuries by dutch royalty as their summer residence. There was a small fair for large dolls, bears and miniatures. The garden is lovely with lots of water features..

My table at the Mini-Wonders fair. We had a good time, we met some very nice people. At the end of the day I had lots of new inspiration.

Mijn beurstafeltje bij Mini-Wonders. Het was een gezellige dag en we hebben leuke mensen ontmoet. Aan het einde van de dag had ik veel nieuwe inspiratie.

Sinds maandag woont Ootje bij ons! Hij is een kleine rode kater van 9 weken. Hij heeft een tomeloze energie. Hij moet minstens 20 kilometer rennend hebben afgelegd sinds hij hier is. Hij spint al als je maar naar hem wijst. Hij is heel dapper en trots op zichzelf als hij Gloomy kan laten schrikken, Gloomy pikt gelukkig niet alles, en heeft al wat corrigerende tikken uitgedeeld. Ootje is leuk om naar te kijken als hij speelt met een pingpong balletje of propje papier, Gloomy en ik houden dat lang vol, daarna zijn we doodmoe....

Since monday Ootje is living with us! He is a tiny nine weeks old male kitten. He has a lot of energy, he must have covered 20 miles running, since he is here. He starts purring when you just look at hem. He is very brave and loves it when he can make Gloomy jump. I am glad Gloomy stands up for himself, he uses his big paws in a correctional way. It is great fun watching Ootje playing with a pingpong ball, Gloomy and i can do that for a long time, untill we are exhausted....

Lila of mauve...

Deze mooie rozen kreeg ik van Jan, ze zijn lila of zijn ze mauve?? Mauve vind ik een mooi woord om met een diepe stem te zeggen: maaauuvvve. Inspiratie voor een hoedje voor de beurs bij Mini-Wonders. De slofjes zijn ook voor de beurs, gemaakt van oude stukjes borduurwerk.

Jan gave me these beautiful roses, is the colour lilac or mauve?? I like to say the word maaauuuuvvvee with a deep voice, thus inspired I made a little hat to take to the show at Mini-Wonders.

The snug little slippers are also for the show, I made them using pieces of old embroidery.

Zaterdag 12 juni staan we op de poppenhuizen-& miniaturenbeurs van Mini-Wonders.
Een kleine en altijd gezellige beurs en natuurlijk de mogelijkheid om lekker te shoppen in de hele grote uitgebreide winkel van Willemijn Stevens.
Ik ben van plan om naast de poppen een heleboel kleine dingetjes te maken,
enthousiast ben ik begonnen met 10 paar slofjes..
Vandaag was het thema: hoe houd ik een grote dikke harige Gloomykat uit de buurt van 19 ienemini slofjes,19...? Grrr,Gloooooomy, ga in je doos! Op mijn werktafel staat een doos ,ik vind het gezellig als Gloomy daar in ligt te slapen als ik aan het werk ben..hij vindt het natuurlijk leuker om knus met zijn neus bovenop wat ik-ook-aan-het-doen-ben te zitten. Vanmorgen zat hij ineens heel braaf in de doos, tot ik over het snoer van de handige loep-lamp struikelde, al vallend steun zocht aan de werktafel, waar Gloomy weer van schrok, als een gek uit de doos sprong en dwars door de toen nog 20 slofjes een veilig onderkomen zocht, zucht..

Madrid

Madrid is een geweldig mooie stad met veel musea, parken, winkels, restaurantjes. Het was heerlijk weer. Jan en ik hebben 2 dagen op de show gezeten, maar hadden nog wat tijd over om een stukje van de stad te verkennen. In het Parque del Buen Retiro hebben we in het gras gezeten om uit te rusten. In het Museo del Prado hebben we prachtige oude schilderijen gezien. In het Centro de Arte Reine Sofia zagen we Picaso en Dali. Moderne kunst in de Real Jardin Botanico. Genoten van de dure etalages, en gewoon genoten van het dagelijkse leven in Madrid
Graag zou ik weer gaan in november als de show van Tom Bishop groter is. De sfeer was goed en gezellig. De show is strak georganiseerd en er is heel veel moois te zien.

Nanny

Dit zijn de laatste popjes die ik heb aangekleed. De nanny is een popje van Miep Otzen, het kleine meisje is van Angelique Hoekstra en de baby is van Heidi Ott.
Liever had ik een porseleinen baby, maar omdat ik op het laatste
moment besloot dat er een baby op schoot moest komen...
Nu alles inpakken, morgen vroeg op voor het vliegtuig naar Madrid.

Vandaag is mijn vakantie begonnen!Volgende week gaan Jan en ik naar Madrid.Voor de eerste keer staan we op een beurs van Tom Bishop.Het voelt als een nieuw avontuur, ik heb er veel zin in! Allemaal gaan we nog even naar de kapper...

Volgens Jan ben ik een stofaholic. Overal waar ik kom
zoek ik naar stofjes en kantjes en bandjes, logisch toch
als je poppenhuispoppen aan wil kleden.
Ze zijn ook zooo mooi, zo oud, zo teer: een gaatje een vlekje is niet erg.
Kon ik maar even terug naar de tijd waarin het gemaakt werd, met veel geduld, of misschien door een
ongeduldig jong meisje dat naar buiten wilde, de zon in..

Mijn Lief
Zij tovert met de kleinste lapjes stof
en stukjes poppen porselein,
katoen en zijde, oude kant, ragfijn,
streepjes suède, schoentjes van echt leer,
prachtig mooi gedetailleerd, ineens, in stijl, een dame of een heer
En oogst daarmee veel lof.

“Traumhaft Schön” zegt men die al dit moois beziet
of ’Very, very charming, yes indeed.’
Zoveel zorg besteedt ze dan ook aan haar werk,
ook de accessoires maakt ze zelf meestal, heel sterk.
Een wandelstok, een parapluie, een strooien hoed,
het lijkt zo heel eenvoudig, maar ze kan het ècht heel goed.

Dus slaat ze eindelijk haar vleugels uit in poppenland.
Arnhem’s kerk en nu toegelaten naar Madrid te gaan
waar haar stijl en kunde zeker niet zullen misstaan,
tot groot plezier van menig klant.

Waarom? Gewoon, het werk is zo inventief gedaan en zó verzorgd.
En bestel je iets van haar kunst via haar webadres?
Dan wordt het ook nog eens heel stipt per post bezorgd.

Kortom, zoals onlangs een dame zei : ‘Tres,tres charmante.
De poppen van La Belle Brigante!
